Also, apparently there is some crying in baseball. Moral of the story: just because something is on social media, doesn’t make it true. Luckily in this case no real damage was done (just emotional trauma to spark years worth of therapy). The way news spreads so quickly through social media is truly remarkable – and sometimes that can be dangerous. Middle-of-the-game trades are nothing new in the MLB, as last-minute deals are made as the deadline closes. It’s because PLOT TWIST: the Internet got it WRONG! The deal was never official, and through the power that is social media, everyone assumed it to be true, and even made someone cry. Now why am I telling you this? It’s not because I care about baseball, or that I like to watch people cry (debatable). It was all very dramatic and heartwarming. Fans, and presumably Flores, were pretty confused and clearly upset, which led to this scene:įans even gave a heartfelt standing ovation for the teary eyed shortstop as he took his last up at bat. To make matters worse, they keep you in the game and expect you to play. Imagine: you’ve been with a team since you were 16, and have to hear through the grapevine that you’re being traded. Wilmer Flores cried, and baseball changed. They spread the word so well, in fact, that Wilmer Flores himself heard the rumor while he was playing a game. The Internet being, well, the Internet, was first to get wind of this and reporters and fans spread the word all over Twitter. Mets infielder Wilmer Flores, 23, became teary eyed when he learned from social media about a deal to trade him to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Carlos Gomez. Rumor had it that the Mets were looking to make a deal, and trade a couple of players (Flores included). There have been many emotional moments during events throughout sports history, however the cause of these tears are surprisingly upsetting. This year, he’ll swing for the fences a little harder and end up with, let’s say, 32.In case you missed it this week, or perhaps you don’t watch SportsCenter loop the same 10 clips for 24 hours (I have a fiery hate for SportsCenter, but that’s for another day…), you might not have seen Wilmer Flores, New York Mets shortstop, crying on live television. Lindor had 20 home runs in 2021 and another 26 in 2022. The star shortstop finds his home run stroke and launches over 30 dingers. The other, aside from Pete Alonso, is Francisco Lindor. The Mets will have two players with 30+ home runs in 2023. 3) NY Mets prediction for Francisco Lindor: 30 home runs Marte seems to be one of the likelier candidates. Someone from the Mets Opening Day lineup is bound to go down with an injury. I do think Marte will be a good player for the Mets when healthy. After playing 118 games for the Mets last year, another 19 missed isn’t too outrageous. It’s not too outrageous to expect Starling Marte to miss a lot of time. 2) NY Mets prediction for Starling Marte: Less than 100 games played It’ll be just one big accomplishment for the Mets center fielder who will challenge for a Gold Glove and the league lead in OBP. My bold prediction for Nimmo is he finally gets an All-Star selection. The 28-year-old is too good to not regain. The four-time all-star had a rough first season in the orange and blue. He runs to first base after a walk for crying out loud. The New York Mets shortstop, Francisco Lindor is primed for a bounceback season. He’s not the kind of guy to take time off. His new contract should give him comfort. 1) NY Mets prediction for Brandon Nimmo: An All-Star selectionīrandon Nimmo is going to have a big year in 2023. Going bold rather than staying home, here is one prediction for each player likely to open the season in the Mets lineup. It’s prediction season for the Mets and the rest of baseball where we help hype up what’s in store for everyone’s favorite blue and orange baseball squad. We don’t yet know what the exact New York Mets starting lineup will look like to begin the 2023 season nor do we know exactly what they will deliver.
